Presentation of the ” ISMA Federation International Award” to Dr. Jan van Dixhoorn

On Friday, December 17, at the 8th International Congress of Stress, Performance & Wellness, the “ISMA Federation International Award” will be presented by Dr. B. Udaya Kumar Reddy to Dr. Jan van Dixhoorn.

About Jan van Dixhoorn, MD PhD

Jan van Dixhoorn, MD, PhD, has developed a sophisticated method for breathing and relaxation therapy, tested it in a clinical trial on cardiac patients and described it in an extensive manual. 

Works part-time in Kennemer Hospital, Haarlem, department of cardiac rehabilitation. His method has been included in the Guidelines for Cardiac Rehabilitation in The Netherlands and he published a systematic review of relaxation therapy for cardiac patients. 

He directs the Centre for Breathing Therapy, in Amersfoort, The Netherlands, from where a three year part time training course for professionals is taught in Van Dixhoorn Method (www.methodevandixhoorn.com). The method is being applied in many fields. They include paramedical professionals, as well as social workers and psychosocial professionals, but also teachers in voice and music. 

Graduates can be registered (www.ademtherapie-aos.org) and their work is being refunded by most health insurance companies.    

He is president of the Breathing and Relaxation Therapy Foundation, vice- president of International Stress Management Association (ISMA), president of the Dutch Branch of ISMA, member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Stress Management and the Journal for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback.
